B i o g r a p h y

Joanna Jakma has been playing piano since she was 7 years old. She began composing her own pieces at the tender age of 10 and by 11, had composed a piece of music spanning 8 minutes of a patchwork quilt of little melodies and chords she had come up with. At age 14, she wanted to be a composer. She did look into studying music in Trinity and was accepted into the Ballyfermot School of Music, but given the competition in this field she decided to take a different career path. However, music has always remained a strong passion and a source of meditation for her and she continues to compose on a regular basis. In fact, she finds it hard to sit at a piano and not to! In her college years, she had a stint of playing piano in a nearby restaurant and is also a part time piano teacher.

Finally, nearly ten years after first talking to friends and family about the possibility of recording some of her music, she finally set about running a fundit campaign for her first ever piano album.
You can see the fundit page here:

With much support from all those close to her, the money was raised and the album became a reality.

From end 2013, she set about bringing the CD to fruition. She spent the winter months practising as much as she could at home, culminating in a few practice sessions in AnneBrook House Hotel, Mullingar and the Courtyard in Leixlip and then on the 8th and 9th of March, the album was recorded at Westland Studios. She took an image from a dream as inspiration for the artwork and created the album cover as well as all the printed media such as flyers and tickets and with thanks to MSB Mastering, the CD went into production.
